Remembering the Future: Uncutting Cords

123 x 248 cm
Print on plexiglass with metal custom construction and bespoke lighting
Light designer: Petros Dermatas

Drawing inspiration from the embroidery of a traditional bridal shirt from Menidi, Attica Region, the artist deconstructs and reassembles its patterns, delving into the dynamic interplay between tradition and contemporary infuences.
Through this process, the artist reinterprets the past, enriching it with elements of pop culture. The vibrant colors and digital reinterpretations embody a dialogue between textile art, pop culture, and modern digital media, inviting the audience to reconsider the threads of tradition through a contemporary lens.

The artist invites the audience to connect with the living and uninterrupted pulse of tradition, highlighting the unbroken bond between the past and the present. This luminous installation, which
seems to “breathe” in an almost organic manner, serves as a tangible testament to the enduring continuity of traditional embroidery, as redefned through Maria Olga’s modern perspective. The vivid, radiant colors of the digital embroidery, combined with its grand scale, create an experience that captivates the senses.
