«Την πρώτη της ατομική έκθεση παρουσιάζει η visual artist Μαρία Όλγα Βλάχου στον χώρο της Συλλογής Ελληνικών Ενδυμασιών «Βικτωρία Γ. Καρέλια» στην Καλαμάτα από τις 23 Φεβρουαρίου έως τις 13 Απριλίου 2025.
Μέσα από δεκατέσσερα έργα μεγάλων διαστάσεων και ένα βίντεο, η Μαρία Όλγα μεταφράζει σε ψηφιακές απεικονίσεις, «κεντημένες» στο χέρι, τα υφαντά, τα κεντητά και τα πλεκτά που χάθηκαν ή κρύβονται σε σεντούκια. Αφουγκραζόμενη τις ανάσες των γυναικών άλλων εποχών, μετατρέπει κάθε βελονιά σε pixel και φέρνει το σημαντικό χθες στο ελπιδοφόρο αύριο.

"Remembering the Future: Uncutting Cords"
Maria Olga Vlachou’s First Solo Exhibition
Victoria G. Karelia Collection of Greek Costumes, Kalamata
From February 23 to April 13, 2025
Visual artist Maria Olga Vlachou presents her debut solo exhibition at the Victoria G. Karelia Collection of Greek Costumes in Kalamata. Through fourteen large-scale works and a video piece, she transposes into digital imagery—meticulously "embroidered" by hand—the woven textiles, embroideries, and knits that have been lost to time or remain hidden in chests. Listening to the echoes of the women who, in bygone eras and under different circumstances, transformed their lived experiences into art, she translates each stitch into a pixel, bringing the weight of history into a hopeful tomorrow.
As exhibition curator Symeon Banos notes, “Drawing inspiration from Greek embroidery traditions, Maria Olga’s artistic practice embodies a meticulous and multi-layered dialogue between the ancient symbols woven by embroiderers and the modern world. At the heart of her approach, as suggested by the exhibition’s title Remembering the Future: Uncutting Cords, lies the deconstruction and redefinition of cultural connections between tradition, history, and identity. Through a painstaking process, she constructs intricate patterns using the digital point-by-point technique. In doing so, she both pays homage to traditional embroidery and explores its meditative quality. Her work transforms these ancestral motifs into digital constellations, evoking a sense of ecstatic consciousness and metaphysical wonder that bridges the gap between heritage and modernity.”
